Svetlana Dimcovic’s ‘Take The Rubbish Out, Sasha’ at Finborough Theatre
Next month at Finborough Theatre Svetlana Dimcovic is directing ‘Take The Rubbish Out, Sasha’, the first production of a Ukrainian play in the UK since the war started.
It is a contemporary Ukrainian play about the war by Natal’ya Vorozhbit, who is still in Ukraine. The cast includes Alan Cox (son of Brian Cox), Amanda Ryan and Issy Knowles.
The play is an abstract, fantastical family story with a lot of humour and magic realism, in the tradition of a lot of European theatre.
Svetlana Dimcovic is working with a Ukrainian video designer, a Polish set designer, a Ukrainian assistant producer and the Ukrainian Centre where she will deliver workshops in Augusto Boal style to refugees and women to open up their channels of dealing with the current situation and include them in this theatrical act of solidarity.
The EU has awarded funding for the production and it is in a double bill with another play by Neda Nezhdana.
