Serbian Language in the Diaspora Workshop in London – 6/7th Oct 2017

The Round Table Working Group( on the Serbian Language (RTWGSL) would like to invite you to a workshop on 6-7 October 2018 at the Kensington Aldridge Academy, 1 Silchester Road, London 2018.

The purpose of the workshop is to promote the teaching and learning of the Serbian language in Serbian diaspora communities and to take forward one of the top priorities of the Round Table and the Round Table’s Working Group on the Serbian Language, to obtain a recognised qualification in the Serbian language at GCSE level.

Presentation about the work of Azbukum:



·       Presenting the principles and parameters used by Azbukum in teaching and learning


·       Types of programmes ( for adults, young people, children) and methods of teaching ( regular classes, teaching camps, on-line teaching)


·       Recognised qualifications offered by Azbukum



·       Teaching materials produced by Azbukum and used in its programme



·       Criteria for teachers, required qualifications and experience


·       Training for teachers and (from Azbukum) outline of training seminars for teachers planned for end of summer 2019


·       Course assessment for checking progress, measuring results and encouraging candidates in further development


·       Case Studies of specific areas of work ( syllabuses and Az buki kamp programme (indoor and outdoor  activities)

10.00         Discussion of Academic Model




·       Presentation of Azbukum scale of Serbian, adopted from the European Framework for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2) and accredited by the Serbian Ministry of Education. With details of what is expected in terms of vocabulary, constructions and language usage at each level. Also to cover assessments at different levels and a model of how to assess a child’s abilities before formal testing


·       Required knowledge for courses


·       Frequency of classes which can be expected weekly/monthly, length of course, homework and should use of the on-line platform be part of the offer? What is a reasonable expectation of what can be covered in such limits .


·       Can the on-line platform be used for those who miss classes or are unable to attend courses because of their geographic location?


·       Do pupils have to follow the course or can they just sit the examinations?


·       Register of evidence of attendance and how to maintain the register.


·       Plan and programme of study


·       Criteria for teachers, required qualifications and experience



·       Training of teachers to meet needs of the programme for the future.
