Serbian City Club visits Brussels
Dr Milos Stefanovic represented the Serbian City Club at a meeting between the members of the Serbian diaspora in various European countries and Ms Tanja Fajon MEP held on October 15th at the Serbian Institute for Public Diplomacy in Brussels. The key topic of the discussion was the visa liberalisation for citizens of the Western Balkans. During the meeting all representatives of the diaspora supported the efforts of Ms Fajon who had been spearheading the recommendation to the European Commission to unconditionally remove any short-term Schengen visa restrictions for the citizens of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia, and to leave the door open for Bosnia & Herzegovina and Albania to join that class at a later date. Shortly after this meeting, the European Commission gave its positive assessment of the recommendation which will be followed by a vote at the EU Council of Ministers in December, so we all hope that the citizens of Serbia will be able to travel visa-free to the Schengen countries in the new year!
Serbian City Club is continuing its lobbying efforts so that the UK also follows suit and abolishes its short-term visa regime for the citizens of Serbia as soon as possible.
