Free online YAC course on Journalism
“How to be a Journalist” - Brought to you by Youth Action for Change
Course Dates: 10th May – 10th June 2010.
Course Description: “The primary aim of journalism is to ethically and responsibly provide citizens with the necessary information to be free and capable of making judgment and taking decisions”.
This is the principle on which the online course on “How to be a Reporter” provided by YAC is based. This course is intended for young people (15 – 30 years old) coming from one of the members countries of the Council of Europe.
The 4 sessions of the course (one per week) will deal with the fundamentals of journalism: types of media, choice of the article, techniques to choose titles and editorials, reliability of the sources of information. A lot of attention will be drawn on the important role of journalism as a vehicle to promote social changes as well as on the ethics of journalism. The issue of the complex relationship between journalism and non for profit organizations will also de a matter of study.
This course is being presented by www.younginnovationseurope.org and students will be trained to write a special article for this magazine after completing the course.
Application (HOW TO APPLY): Register your interest in participating in this free online course by reading the YAC student guide attached and completing the online application form at http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=KIKNNF_46ea98ec by the 2nd of May 2010. This course is designed for young people aged 18-30 who are actively involved in making a difference in their communities and who have ideas for projects they would like to undertake. The course will be restricted to 30 participants from member states of the council of Europe chosen by application. Participants must be able to attend the whole session of the course and complete homework tasks in order to obtain a certificate of completion. Participants must also have regular internet access (at least 5 hours per week) to join course sessions. Successful participants will be notified by the 5th of May and the course will begin on the 10th of May 2010.
